Completing the travel agent training with Princess Cruises comes with the reward of a graduation cruise. I've been exploring the wonderful itineraries departing from San Juan, Puerto Rico, and decided on the Grand Princess voyage. This cruise departs from San Juan, Puerto Rico, and visits some of the Caribbean's most enchanting islands: St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands, St. Maarten, Dominica, Antigua, and Barbados. This journey was more than just a holiday; it was an immersive experience in culture, nature, and outstanding service that made my first experience with Princess Cruises truly memorable.

Exceptional Service That Stands Out
What sets Princess Cruises apart is their outstanding service. From the moment I stepped back on the ship after a hot day ashore, a fresh, gold towel was waiting for me. This small but thoughtful gesture made a big difference in comfort. When unexpected rain showers hit, the crew provided umbrellas without hesitation, showing genuine care for passengers’ needs.
The crew’s attentiveness extended beyond these moments. Whether it was helping with directions or offering recommendations, their friendly and professional approach made the experience smooth and enjoyable. This level of service is a key reason why Princess Cruises remains a favorite among travelers.
Exploring the Rich Afro-Caribbean History
One of the highlights of the cruise was visiting museums in St. Thomas and Antigua that focus on the history of Afro-Caribbean people. These visits offered a powerful and educational perspective on the islands’ past, culture, and resilience. Learning about the struggles and triumphs of the Afro-Caribbean community added depth to the trip, making it more than just a beach getaway.
In Antigua, the museum exhibits brought history to life, while St. Thomas offered a unique blend of cultural insights and stunning views. These stops reminded me how travel can broaden understanding and appreciation for diverse cultures.

Natural Beauty and Warm Hospitality in Dominica
Dominica was a standout destination for its natural beauty and welcoming people. We took a tour around the island that showcased lush rainforests, waterfalls, and volcanic landscapes. The island’s untouched environment felt like a hidden gem in the Caribbean.
What made the visit even more memorable was the warmth of the locals. Their hospitality made us feel at home and eager to learn more about their traditions and way of life. This connection between nature and community is what makes Dominica a must-visit for travelers seeking authentic experiences.
Convenience and Innovation with Ocean Now and the Princess App
Princess Cruises impressed me with their Ocean Now feature, which allows passengers to order food from anywhere on the ship. This convenience meant I could relax by the pool or in a lounge and still enjoy a meal or snack without having to go to a restaurant.
The Princess App was another highlight. It helped me navigate the ship easily, showing the location of dining rooms, lounges, and entertainment venues. I could also see where my travel companions were, which made meeting up hassle-free. These digital tools enhanced the overall cruise experience by making it more user-friendly and connected.
Dining Experiences on the Grand Princess
Food is always a big part of any cruise, and the Grand Princess offered a variety of options. I preferred to avoid the buffet and instead enjoyed meals at the pizza place, the Salty Dog, and the International Cafe. These casual spots served tasty, quick bites that fit my schedule and taste.
For more formal dining, the Davinci dining room was my go-to for dinners and some breakfasts. It offered classic cruise dining with a walk-in option, which was convenient and comfortable. The food quality was good overall, with a range of dishes that catered to different preferences.
The Grand Princess Ship: A Nostalgic but Aging Vessel
The Grand Princess is an older ship, and it shows. Walking through its halls felt like stepping back into the 1990s. While the ship has charm and history, some areas felt dated compared to newer vessels. For this reason, I don’t plan to sail on the Grand Princess again.
That said, I am excited about future cruises on newer Princess ships like the Sun Princess and Star Princess. These ships promise a more modern experience with updated amenities and design, which I look forward to exploring.

Final Thoughts on My Graduation Cruise
This cruise served as an excellent introduction to Princess following the completion of my travel agent training. The blend of exceptional service, cultural exploration, natural beauty, and user-friendly technology made it a fulfilling experience. Although the Grand Princess might seem somewhat outdated, the overall journey with Princess Cruises was positively memorable.
If you are considering a Caribbean cruise, I recommend focusing on the service and shore excursions, which truly bring the trip to life. And if you sail with Princess, try the Ocean Now feature and the Princess App to make your time onboard easier and more enjoyable.
